Paste the ad account name into the platform exactly as shown. It is also used as utm_campaign and inside the Google Ads tag, so the name and the tag always match — including when you reload and edit a saved campaign.

2. Tagged landing page URL
Source is locked to your publisher, medium comes from a fixed list, and campaign is locked to the ad account name above. Any UTM left blank is tagged with its Google dynamic value instead — content {creative}, term {keyword} — so the platform fills it at click time.

3. Google Ads tag
Ready to paste into your ad account. Campaign name, source and medium are fixed from your selections above; keyword, creative and the campaign / ad group / match type / network / device values are pulled from the click at run time. Use the tracking template or the final URL suffix — not both.

4. Account-level tracking template (Google Ads, set once)
Paste this one template at the account level and every campaign, ad group and ad inherits it — you never touch tracking per campaign again. It captures the keyword, creative, campaign, ad group, match type, network, device, placement, geographic location and GCLID from every click.
{lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaignid}&utm_term={keyword}&utm_content={creative}&gclid={gclid}&campaignid={campaignid}&adgroupid={adgroupid}&adid={creative}&matchtype={matchtype}&network={network}&device={device}&devicemodel={devicemodel}&placement={placement}&targetid={targetid}&loc_physical={loc_physical_ms}&loc_interest={loc_interest_ms}

How to set it up in Google Ads

  1. Turn on auto-tagging first — this is what generates the GCLID. In Google Ads go to Admin → Account settings → Auto-tagging and tick "Tag the URL that people click through from my ad", then Save.
  2. Still in Admin → Account settings, open Tracking.
  3. Paste the template above into the Tracking template field.
  4. Click Test — Google checks a few of your landing pages with the template applied. Fix anything it flags, then Save.
  5. Check one live click: the landing URL should show gclid= with a long value plus your utm values filled in.

Google Ads applies the most specific template it finds: ad level beats ad group, which beats campaign, which beats account. So this account template is your safety net for full data capture, and a campaign-level template from section 3 (which carries your fixed campaign name as utm_campaign) overrides it only where you paste one. If you use the section 3 template at campaign level, keep this account template anyway so everything else is still covered.

5. Your campaign records
Saved in this browser automatically. Download a backup file every time you save a campaign or change your value lists — that file is the only way to keep your work if you clear your browser or switch computers. Upload it again to restore everything.
